The Nicholas P. Lesando, Jr. American Legion Post 214, the Veterans Of Foreign Wars Post 4662, and The Book Store are proud to sponsor a book signing for Remembrance: A Tribute to America’s Veterans at the Warwick Town Hall on Sat., Dec.21, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The artist Bob Fletcher and author Rob Fletcher – father and son – will discuss the book, answer questions, and sign copies of both the book and the accompanying music CD. This event is free, open to the public, and refreshments will be served.
The 20 painting exhibit comes home to Warwick after being displayed at the Russell Senate Office Building in Washington, DC to commemorate National Veterans Week. The paintings depict military funerals and scenes from the lives of America’s veterans from all wars from the Revolutionary War to the war in Afghanistan. The painting exhibit will be open for viewing at the Warwick Town Hall on Kings Highway, Fri., Dec. 20, and Sat., Dec. 21, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day.
Remembrance: A Tribute to America’s Veterans is a 152-page hardcover book, the first to portray military funeral scenes from all of America’s armed conflicts in a series of outstandingly precise watercolor paintings and pencil drawings. Artist Bob Fletcher, a Korean War veteran, has set many of these scenes in the historic Warwick Valley. Remembrance also includes historical background text by his son, Rob Fletcher.
A music CD including original renditions of classics such as, “God Bless America,” “Rally Round the Flat,” “I’ll Be With You in Apple Blossom Time,” “Amazing Grace” and many more will also be available. All of the songs are arranged and performed by a unique group of acoustic musicians, including author Rob Fletcher. The CD also features readings by Pulitzer-prize winning poet Louis Simpson.
Books and CDs will be available Saturday at the Town Hall, as well as at the Iron Mountain Frame Shop located at 7 Wisner Road, and at The Book Store located on Main St. The book retails for $49.95; the CD, $14.95.
A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Nicholas P. Lesando, Jr., American Legion Post 214, Warwick, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4662, Warwick, and the Children’s Miracle Network.
